After Hours: Room 214 Is a Two-Player Mystery About a Room With No Phone That Keeps Calling

After Hours: The Call from Room 214 key art — a rain-soaked night outside the ALDER HOUSE hotel with lit windows, a full moon and a rotary phone in the corner, with the game's title, TWO PLAYERS and FREE CHAPTER banners, from the two-player browser mystery

“Room 214 has no phone. Someone is calling anyway.” That’s the whole hook of After Hours: The Call from Room 214, a cooperative browser mystery from Tandem Casebook built for exactly two players — and the setup is doing a lot of atmospheric work before you’ve clicked a single thing.

Two Players, Two Screens, One Case

The structure is the game’s real trick: you and a partner each play on your own device, connected by your own voice call — the game deliberately doesn’t provide chat. Each player sees different clues about what’s haunting the night desk, so the mystery only resolves by talking it through. The free first chapter is out now in the browser; the full 10-chapter case costs US$12.99 per pair, one room, 90 days from payment.

A Mystery You Have to Discuss to Solve

It’s the We Were Here-style asymmetric-information formula applied to a slow-burn hotel mystery, and the two-device requirement isn’t a limitation — it’s the design. You cannot solve Room 214 alone, and that’s the point.

After Hours reached us through GamerMenu’s indie submissions program — a submission whose pitch worked as a single spooky sentence.
