Neowiz’s Pinocchio-inspired soulslike proves the genre has room for fresh blood.
Overview
Lies of P reimagines the Pinocchio fairy tale as a dark, gothic soulslike set in the crumbling city of Krat. Players control P, a puppet who must lie, fight, and survive in a world overrun by maddened automatons.
Combat That Clicks
The combat is the star here. P’s weapon system allows mixing and matching blades and handles to create custom movesets, and the parry-based Perfect Guard system rewards precision. Boss fights are challenging but fair, with checkpoints placed generously.
The Lying Mechanic
Lies of P’s signature twist — the ability to lie — affects which quests you unlock and which ending you get. It is a clever way to make dialogue choices meaningful in a genre that usually ignores them.
Verdict
Lies of P is one of the best soulslikes outside FromSoftware. It understands what makes the genre work and adds its own compelling ideas.
Score: 8.5/10 — Excellent
