Xbox’s Mythic Achievements Roll Out With a 15-Second Unlock Fanfare

Xbox's green Mythic achievement badge and its unlock soundwave — the Platinum-style rewards have started rolling out

Xbox has started rolling out its previously teased Mythic achievements — a new top-tier category that unlocks only after you’ve earned every base achievement in a game. Think of it as Microsoft’s long-awaited answer to PlayStation’s Platinum trophies, with one very loud twist.

How Mythic Achievements Work

As reported by The Verge, the new tier has begun appearing in the Xbox app on PC following a recent update. According to TrueAchievements, Mythic achievements are tracked separately from standard achievements, are unaffected by DLC achievements, and are worth 0 Gamerscore — the reward is the flex itself. To earn one, you’ll first need to complete all of a game’s base achievements; only then does the Mythic unlock fire.

15 Seconds of Fanfare

When a Mythic achievement pops, players get an on-screen animation and a sound effect that, for reasons known only to someone at Xbox, runs for nearly 15 seconds. Xbox content creator Klobrille shared the unlock sequence on Twitter on September 22, giving the world its first listen to gaming’s longest achievement jingle. Kotaku’s Zack Zwiezen was left unimpressed, calling the fanfare “way too much” — though most players will rarely hear it, given what it takes to trigger one.

Teased in August, Landing in a Rough Week

The Mythic tier is the same feature Xbox boss Asha Sharma teased back in August, and insiders have spotted references to it in Xbox builds for weeks. Its quiet arrival in the PC app lands in the very same week that Microsoft laid off hundreds more Xbox staff as part of the sweeping “reset” of the division — an odd bit of timing for a celebration of the platform’s most dedicated players.
