The next Monster Hunter game is almost here — and it is not the one you might expect. Monster Hunter Outlanders, the free-to-play mobile entry developed by TiMi Studio Group, finally has an official release date: October 29, 2026 on iOS and Android.

A Full Monster Hunt in Your Pocket

Outlanders may be a mobile title, but what has been shown so far looks surprisingly close to the traditional series formula. The latest trailer shows the beginning of a hunt against a massive dragon: the player slashes with their long sword, rolls out of incoming attacks, manages their health bar and coordinates with three other players — all rendered with eight buttons on the screen, which, as Polygon jokes, “is how you know this is a real MonHun game.” Perhaps the best news for series veterans: controller support is confirmed, because this does not seem like the kind of thing you would want to play without one.

The TiMi Factor

The developer is TiMi Studio Group, the Tencent subsidiary that previously worked on Pokémon Unite and Call of Duty: Mobile — and it has been a long road: Outlanders was first announced all the way back on November 9, 2022. Like its console siblings, the game includes exploration, crafting and social elements including four-player co-op, and the response to its closed beta tests has largely been positive, with players complimenting how closely the core combat compares to previous installments in the series. While mainline fans have kept busy with crossover fare like the Monster Hunter Wilds x Final Fantasy XIV collaboration, Outlanders is the series’ bid to put the hunt in every pocket.

The Gacha Question

The biggest unknown is monetization. Outlanders is a gacha game: players roll for “adventurers,” preset characters with different weapon specialties and unique abilities. The standard genre furniture is in place — Polygon notes a pity system that guarantees an SSR character after 90 pulls, with a 50 percent chance that the pity pull is the featured banner character. As the outlet puts it, how easy pulls are to earn — and how much better SSR adventurers are than their less rare counterparts — will determine whether the system feels extremely exploitative or only slightly. We will find out how the whole balance feels when Monster Hunter Outlanders launches on October 29, one month from today.
