Microsoft and World’s Edge announced at Gamescom 2025 that Age of Empires IV is coming to PlayStation 5 on November 4 — marking the first time a mainline Age of Empires game has appeared on a PlayStation console.
A Historic Crossover
Age of Empires has been synonymous with PC gaming for over 25 years. Bringing the franchise to PlayStation 5 is a significant moment — it signals Microsoft’s continued push to bring its PC and Xbox titles to rival platforms.
What PS5 Players Get
The PS5 version includes all the content from the PC release, including the base game and all previously released DLC. The controls have been adapted for DualSense, with the touchpad and adaptive triggers used for unit selection and building placement.
RTS on Console
RTS games have historically struggled on consoles, but Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition proved it’s possible with the right control scheme. If World’s Edge can nail the controller experience, this could open the door for more RTS games on PlayStation.
