Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Arrives October 9 — a Frozen New Region and the RPG’s Switch 2 Debut

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen official art — Capcom's expansion opening the frozen northern realm of Norgan when it launches October 9 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 for $49.99

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is about to end two years of near-silence in a big way. The Dark Arisen expansion releases on October 9 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, priced at $49.99 — with the expansion also available separately as DLC for owners of the base game. Notably, the date doubles as Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Nintendo Switch 2 debut, bringing Capcom’s sprawling action RPG to a Nintendo platform for the first time.

North to Norgan

The expansion’s headline addition is Norgan, an icy realm in the northern reaches of the Vermund Kingdom. It’s purportedly around a quarter of the size of the original map, but designed with far more verticality to feel denser — and the cold is more than aesthetic. Environmental hazards like whiteout blizzards and the new Chilled status effect gradually drain your stamina, making combat, exploration and navigation alike more difficult as you push deeper.

Twelve challenging dungeons, known as the Lost Rites, anchor the expansion — and crucially they aren’t all confined to Norgan, giving you a reason to revisit areas of the original game. Elite enemies within them guarantee a Relic drop, and Relics are the new progression loop: unidentifiable loot that must be appraised and purified into powerful weapons, armour and equipment. Relic gear can’t be upgraded like conventional equipment, but it can augment core vocation skills, opening previously impossible archetypes for familiar classes — and every vocation is receiving upgraded skills, so you won’t be pushed into abandoning your favourite. Active weapon build slots are also increasing from four to six.

You won’t need to have finished the main story to start the expansion — it’s accessed through a character named Brandt in Vernworth relatively early — but level forty is recommended before making the journey north. Norgan’s difficulty is designed to progressively escalate to counteract your advance.

Free Title Update 4 for Every Player

Alongside the expansion, all players get a free Title Update 4 across every platform. Per the official patch notes, it adds a Hard Mode, a feature that lets you carry over your current saved data and start the game from the beginning — a New Game+ style restart — and a new Orienteer specialization for Pawns. Rift crystals received from forgotten riftstones jump from 30 to 90, and various bug fixes ship alongside.

There’s technical polish too: PlayStation 5 Pro gains official support for Enhanced PSSR, while the Steam version adds FSR 3 Frame Generation, bumps DLSS Super Resolution to version 4.5, and updates DLSS Frame Generation to support multi-frame generation — now usable even without DLSS Super Resolution enabled. Between the expansion and the free update, October 9 is shaping up to be the biggest day in Dragon’s Dogma 2’s post-launch history.
