FromSoftware has released Elden Ring Patch 1.14, bringing significant balance changes to Shadow of the Erdtree content alongside a host of bug fixes. The patch addresses community feedback since the DLC’s launch, with particular attention to weapon arts, spirit ash balancing, and the notoriously difficult final boss encounters.
Key Balance Changes
The patch notes, spanning over 200 individual tweaks, focus on three main areas:
- Weapon Arts: Several underperforming Ashes of War have received damage buffs. The Piercing Fang skill now deals 15% more poise damage, while the Storm Blade’s projectile speed has increased by 20%.
- Spirit Ashes: Mimic Tear Ash has been nerfed again — its HP is now 85% of the player’s (down from 95%). Conversely, the Latenna the Albinauric spirit summon has received a 25% damage boost, making her a viable ranged support option.
- Boss Adjustments: Bayle the Dread’s second-phase lightning attacks have a 0.3-second longer tell, giving players more reaction time. Commander Gaius’s charge attack hitbox has been reduced by 12%.
Bug Fixes
The patch fixes several long-standing issues:
- Fixed a bug where the Bloodhound’s Step skill would sometimes teleport players through walls
- Corrected the FP cost display for several spells in the tooltip
- Resolved an issue where the Great-Jar’s Hunt quest could become incompletable if the player died during the final encounter
- Fixed a crash that occurred when using the Ash of War: Bloodhound’s Finesse while mounted
Performance Improvements
PC players will see improved frame rates in dense areas like Scadu Altus and the Shadow Keep. Shader compilation stutters have been reduced, and the patch adds support for NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 Frame Generation on RTX 40-series GPUs.
Community Reaction
The Souls community has responded positively to the patch. The Mimic Tear nerf was expected — it’s been the dominant spirit summon since launch — while the Bayle adjustment has been welcomed by players struggling with the DLC’s final encounters. Speedruners are already testing the implications of the Bloodhound’s Step fix.
Patch 1.14 is available now on all platforms. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is required for most of the balance changes to be relevant.
