Rockstar Games has released the official launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 — a character-focused setup for Jason and Lucia’s story that arrives just over a month before the game’s November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The trailer, released October 15, was apparently captured on a PlayStation 5, Eurogamer reports. It opens with a shot of The Keys — a portion of GTA 6’s map largely unexplored in prior trailers — and moves through heists in action, one of which appears to include a helicopter getaway gone awry.

Jason, Lucia, and an Ankle Tag

Rockstar’s official synopsis sets the stakes: “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted details that hint at how the pair’s story starts: an ankle tag on Lucia’s leg suggests she is out on parole, and Jason appears to receive a reverse-charged phone call early in the trailer — seemingly Lucia calling from jail. There is also an intimate shower scene between the two protagonists, seemingly confirming the rumored sex scenes.

PC Gamer’s Andy Chalk calls the trailer more restrained and focused than previous GTA 6 footage, “with a greater emphasis on character and narrative than the chaos of the previous games” — adding that it makes him feel like he is “settling in for the season-ending two-parter of a Michael Mann series from a decade or so ago.”

Justice Scores Leonida

Rather than the licensed tracks of the first two trailers — Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road” and the Pointer Sisters’ “Hot Together” — the launch trailer carries a new standalone single from Justice called “Flower in a Hurricane,” featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. The electronic duo composed the full GTA 6 score.

The trailer’s timing is notable beyond marketing: it lands after a week of new leaked gameplay videos from the hacker Cyberleek, and while Rockstar’s explanations for the game’s two delays are still fresh.

Eligible for Game of the Year — Barely

The Game Awards’ website FAQ states that “games must be made commercially available to customers on or before Friday, November 20, 2026, at 9pm PT.” With GTA 6 arriving November 19, this year’s biggest release qualifies for The Game Awards 2026 — by a single day.

If it dominates the show, it would not be Rockstar’s first sweep: Red Dead Redemption 2 took home four awards in 2018, including Best Narrative and Best Performance for Roger Clark’s Arthur Morgan. The record to beat is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s nine wins from last year, which dethroned Baldur’s Gate 3’s six.

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
