Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, the dark-fantasy action RPG follow-up to Team Ninja’s 2023 hit, has a release date: March 4, 2027. Producer Masakazu Hirayama confirmed the launch window today on the PlayStation Blog — and announced that a limited-time Alpha Demo is live on PS5 today, running through September 30.
What’s in the Alpha Demo
In the Alpha Demo, players can take on part of the Changban stage, utilizing Chinese martial arts that blend offense and defense, traversing the Three Kingdoms battlefield where demons run rampant, and engaging in combat with legendary heroes from history. Beating the boss Wuzhiqi unlocks the special Fledgling Phoenix Helmet for use in the full game — and Team Ninja is asking for player feedback via a post-demo survey, “truly appreciates all player feedback, and it makes a huge difference in shaping the final product before launch.”
Acrobatic Chinese Martial Arts
The gameplay balances flow between offense and defense. Make full use of Deflect, which nullifies and redirects enemy attacks, along with the wide variety of distinctive Martial Arts techniques and weapons at your disposal. In Wo Long 2, the key is to make effective use of Insight Skills, which enhance the protagonist’s actions. These allow you to stave off and counter enemy attacks and send foes crashing into walls — or to slam enemies that strike from above down to the ground.
Open Three Kingdoms Battlefields
Famous Three Kingdoms battlefields such as Changban and the Red Cliffs are depicted in open fields — but they’re not the same as the ancient China you’ve read about. As you cross these expansive maps, you’ll find everything from enemy strongholds to demonic lairs. How you approach them is up to you: flank enemy lines, capture bases, set traps, or even recruit enemy generals to your side to turn the tide when the odds are stacked against you.
Dark Fantasy With Demons and Warriors
In Wo Long 2, an original story unfolds in a dark-fantasy version of the Three Kingdoms. Elixirs of immortality and demons inspired by legendary beings from Chinese classical literature exist alongside some of the era’s greatest warriors. Characters from the previous title will continue to play important roles, but the story is designed so that even newcomers to the series can enjoy it without feeling lost.
The game features multiplayer co-op and character creation, both of which can also be enjoyed in the limited-time Alpha Demo.
