After a year in which its first-ever remake became one of its best-received games in ages, Assassin’s Creed fans had every reason to expect more. Ubisoft has now told them not to. In its Fall 2026 franchise update, published on the company’s own website this week, Ubisoft confirmed that no other Assassin’s Creed remakes are currently in development — a statement that lands just months after Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sold over 3.5 million copies and, per Eurogamer, “exceeded annual expectations within its first 14 days.”
The Statement
“One thing we want to be transparent about today is that we currently have no other Assassin’s Creed remake actively in development,” the company said in the update, attributed to franchise head of content Jean Guesdon. “Our teams are already focused on the next chapter of Assassin’s Creed titles, including projects you haven’t heard about yet, featuring new settings and stories.” TechPowerUp notes the clarification pours cold water on rumors that had been circulating about a remake of the original 2007 Assassin’s Creed.
Why It Stings
The walk-back is notable because Ubisoft itself put the idea in fans’ heads. Back in 2024, CEO Yves Guillemot said remakes — plural — were in active development across Ubisoft studios: “players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernise them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.” Since then, Black Flag Resynced launched on July 9 as the series’ first-ever remake — a “massive undertaking” of rebuilding old systems, in Ubisoft’s own words — became one of 2026’s highest-rated releases, and just received its final major content update.
The Door Remains Open
Fans of the old games shouldn’t despair entirely. “Like many of you, we love the idea of revisiting our classic titles, and we’ll keep exploring opportunities to bring older titles back,” the statement continues. “That door remains open because, after all… Nothing is true, everything is permitted.” — the Assassin Order’s own motto doing the heavy lifting there.
What Assassin’s Creed Players Get Instead
The update isn’t all bad news. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla — which recently passed 40 million players — is finally getting its long-awaited New Game+ mode on November 5, complete with dedicated difficulty scaling, new runes, achievements, a stash system, a new Mithril upgrade resource, and a Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe from Shadows. Beyond that: PvP multiplayer project Codename Invictus is being reworked after players liked its parkour and character roster in a private Insiders Session, “darker, narrative-driven” Codename Hexe is progressing steadily with its next major update coming in 2027 (along with a decoded message reading “LOADING ANIMUS MEMORY. CRITICAL FAILURE, MEMORY STREAM UNSTABLE.”), Netflix’s live-action series is nearing the end of production in Rome, and Assassin’s Creed turns 20 in 2027 with a year of reveals planned. Remakes will just have to wait their turn.
