Arc Raiders: Frozen Trail Update Brings New Map, Four ARCs and Personal Outposts

A raider in winter gear from Arc Raiders' Frozen Trail update — the snowy Pendola Pass map is Embark's most ambitious yet

Embark Studios has pulled back the curtain on Frozen Trail, the next major Arc Raiders update — and it’s far bigger than anyone expected. The 2.0 patch arrives October 8 as a free update, and it’s the first fruit of the extraction shooter’s new six-month cadence between major content drops.

Pendola Pass and the Flash Freeze

The headline addition is Pendola Pass, a snowy mountain region north of the Rust Belt flanked on all sides by a gigantic Emperor corpse — which Embark calls its “most ambitious map to date.” The region has a unique “Flash Freeze” condition that punishes raiders who linger outside too long. Cold, in other words, is a mechanic.

Four New ARC Machines

Frozen Trail adds four new ARC enemy types. The Frigate is a massive airborne carrier that apparently can’t be fully destroyed — framed as a “high-stakes challenge for experienced Raiders.” The Bully, a four-legged cousin of the Leaper, uses hit-and-run tactics; the Skulker is a small ground-level pest that keeps its distance and takes pot shots; and the Hydra is a stationary turret that can lock onto three players simultaneously.

Outposts, Amplification and a Grapple Hook

For the first time, raiders get personal outposts outside Speranza that can be decorated with furniture, trinkets and upgrade benches — though you can’t walk around them yet. “That is something we’re thinking about as we look to evolve this feature,” executive producer Aleksander Grøndal told a press Q&A. A new research bench enables Weapon Amplification, upgrading 15 guns at launch with unique abilities like flammable ammo or rapid-fire, plus two new weapons: the light-ammo Stiletto battle rifle and the quickfire Bantum revolver. The skill tree is reworked to force meaningful choices (no single raider can have every skill), stencils act as multi-use gun skins, and a grapple hook, banjo and camera tool round out the new gadgets.

What About the Cheaters?

Arc Raiders has fought a visible cheating epidemic in its PvP lobbies — aimbots, wallhacks, location reveals and self-revives are the most-cited offenders. Grøndal, speaking to Polygon ahead of the reveal, acknowledged “the cheating industry is so large right now” and that Embark has “employed a multitude of technologies; some are instant, but some are more about looking retroactively at data.” Frozen Trail itself won’t ship specific anti-cheat features on October 8 — those updates are “continuously happening more quietly on the back side of things.”
