Counting to 21 has rarely felt this sharp. Burakku Jakku Samurai, a tactical pixel-art roguelite from developer PixelScale, has a free public demo live on Steam — and the studio says the demo will take part in the October 2026 edition of Steam Next Fest (October 19–26), with the full game planned for 2027.
Blackjack Logic, Samurai Duels
The elevator pitch is blackjack with swords. You draw standard numerical cards to charge your spiritual energy — Ki — toward a strict limit of 21. Pushing closer to the threshold increases your offensive power, but landing exactly on 21 triggers Perfect Focus, an unstoppable lethal strike. It’s the classic risk-reward of the card table — how close do you dare get? — rendered as pixel-art samurai combat, and the store page leaves the question hanging: will you play it safe?
Special cards let you bend the rules of each duel, altering combat conditions to fit your hand. “Your strategy is your sharpest weapon,” as the game’s own tagline puts it — plan your route and survive. Steam’s user tags sketch the shape of the thing: Roguelite, Card Battler, Card Game, Deckbuilding, Turn-Based Combat, Turn-Based Strategy, Tactical, Pixel Graphics, Samurai.
Demo Now, 2027 Later
The demo is downloadable now from the game’s Steam page, and it’s a generous one: English plus six more languages, single-player with Family Sharing support, and a 2027 release window for the full game. With no user reviews yet — the game is pre-release — the October Next Fest stop should give it its biggest spotlight so far. Valve’s showcase page for the October 2026 edition is already up, and the event has a long history of turning demo hits into wishlist surges.
Burakku Jakku Samurai came to our attention through GamerMenu’s indie submissions program — where small teams submit their games for honest coverage. This one stood out for how cleanly it fuses a rule everyone knows with a setting most card games never touch.
