Team Cherry’s long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong made an appearance at Gamescom 2025’s Opening Night Live, and the silks are finally spinning.
The Long Wait
Originally announced in 2019, Silksong has become one of gaming’s most infamous “will it ever come out?” titles. The sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight switches the protagonist from the Knight to Hornet, offering faster, more acrobatic combat and a new world to explore.
What Gamescom Showed
The ONL appearance gave fans a fresh look at gameplay, showcasing Hornet’s silk-based abilities, new enemies, and the hauntingly beautiful art style that made the original so beloved. The pacing appears faster and more aggressive than the Knight’s methodical approach.
Still No Firm Date
While Team Cherry has been characteristically vague about an exact release date, the fact that Silksong appeared at one of gaming’s biggest stages suggests a launch isn’t too far off. Whenever it arrives, it’ll be one of the most anticipated indie releases of the decade.
