“There’s no easy way to put it: we have made the difficult decision to sunset Rainbow Six Mobile. The game will remain available until January 15, 2027. The next season will be released as planned next week.” That’s Ubisoft’s announcement, posted on the game’s X account on October 8 — and it closes the book on one of gaming’s longest roads to a short life.
Seven Months
The shutdown lands “just 7 months into its full release,” as Kotaku’s headline puts it. The free-to-play tactical shooter spent years reaching the starting line: announced in 2022, in beta throughout 2023 and into 2024, delayed until 2025, released in Latin America first, then globally earlier this year. Despite millions of downloads on Android and iOS, the game never stayed in players’ rotations. Polygon reports the developers will now “move on to other long-term strategic projects” at Ubisoft.
“A Solid Game, Just Wish It Was More Like Siege”
That’s the player sentiment Kotaku surfaced — “Overall, it’s a solid game, I just wish it was more similar to the actual console and PC version, with more operator choices” — and it was the core problem: Rainbow Six Mobile had to be Siege enough for Siege fans and mobile enough for phones, and found a durable audience for neither. The servers stay on until January 15, 2027, and one final season arrives as planned — a three-month farewell window for a game that spent four years getting here.
