Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds 2 got a new trailer at Gamescom 2025 focused on the game’s companions, and it’s launching October 29.
A Crew for Every Playstyle
The trailer showcased the companion roster, and there’s genuinely something for everyone — robots, men with big hammers, sassy gun-toting ladies. Each companion appears to have their own backstory, loyalty quest, and distinct personality, following the Obsidian tradition of memorable party members.
Can You Romance Them?
The trailer was very clear on one point: you cannot romance your companions. Obsidian laid out that ground rule with characteristic humor, which is honestly refreshing in an era where every RPG feels obligated to include romance mechanics.
Bigger and Better
The Outer Worlds 2 promises a larger scope than the original — more star systems, more factions, more choices. The first game was praised for its writing and player freedom but criticized for its relatively small scale. Obsidian seems intent on addressing that feedback.
October 29 puts it right in the thick of the holiday season. Time to start planning those vacation days.
