Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 needs more time — and its fans couldn’t be happier about it. Bandai Namco has narrowed the action-RPG’s release window to the second half of 2027, producer Masayuki Hirano has confirmed, with the extra time going toward improvements shaped by player feedback. The game was previously targeting a broad 2027 launch — PlayStation had even suggested “Early 2027” last month — so the update reads as an official delay, announced alongside new information about battle customization and PvE missions.
‘A Series We Build Together With the Players’
In a statement accompanying the update, Hirano thanked fans directly and explained the reasoning. “Over the past several months, we have continuously revealed new information to all of you and, in return, have received valuable feedback. We are truly grateful for that support,” he said. “Based on the feedback and survey results we have gathered, we have already held discussions with the development team and announced certain areas where we intend to make improvements in response.”
As for the window itself: “Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a series that we build together with the players through launch, and throughout its post launch life as well. To fully realize our ambitions for both the launch experience and the content we plan to operate and support afterward, the release window is currently set for the latter half of 2027.” Hirano added that “we may keep you waiting a little longer until our next update, but we are fully committed to making 2027 a great year for Dragon Ball game fans, and we will do everything we can to make that happen.”
Why Fans Are Cheering a Delay
Delays are usually received poorly. This one landed differently — because Xenoverse 3’s early footage drew real backlash. The biggest flashpoint: Super Saiyan transformations would be time-limited, with early gameplay showing the power-up seemingly lasting about one minute — a stark break from the first two Xenoverse games, where a built-up transformation lasted the rest of a level. “I hope to see the whole community bashing this idea nonstop until they change it, because they won’t do anything if they can pretend it’s only a minority of people,” one Reddit user wrote when the footage dropped.
Hirano didn’t promise specific changes — but as Polygon notes, it seems quite possible the transformation system is one of the improvements he’s referring to, and “most fans seem happy with the news,” which gives Dimps more time for polish. Beyond the Super Saiyan debate, players have also been vocal about the UI, character models, and online functionality.
A New Chapter, Ten Years in the Making
Xenoverse 3 is the first numbered entry in over a decade — Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 launched back in 2016 and kept receiving support for years. The sequel takes players to AGE 1000 with a new adventure in the franchise’s universe: create your own character and join the Great Saiya Squad. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
